Oncopsis subangulata
Family: Cicadellidae

Oncopsis species are sexually dimorphic and also rather variable; identification can be complex. The genus is distinguished from Macropsis by the striations on the pronotum, which are parallel to the hind margin.

O.subangulata
and O.flavicollis are very similar in size and general appearance. Both feed on birch and are often found together.

Male: Similar to O.flavicollis, but usually with weaker dark markings on the face and lacking prominent discoidal spots. May be difficult to separate from weakly pigmented specimens of O.flavicollis.

Female:
The shape of the ovipositor is diagnostic; longer and straighter than in O.flavicollis (see below). The face is brownish with a dark-edged roughly heart-shaped mark covering the lower part. The scutellum is largely brown and the forewings grey.

Widely distributed throughout Britain on birch, but more local than O. flavicollis.

Adult: May to September
