| Cacopsylla
affinis Family: Psyllidae One of many species of purple and red psyllids, and not easy to identify. The female genitalia are unusually long, with a distinct bump two-thirds of the way along the dorsal surface. The pterostigma is long, and the veins yellow to brown. There are dark surface spinules visible over the wing membrane, except for narrow bands alongside veins. There are pale longitudinal marks on the dorsum of the thorax. Identification should be confirmed from dissection of the aedegus. Locally common species on Birch and Hawthorn across the UK. Length 3-3.5 mm Adult: all year, overwintering. |
